RUFUS DERCKSEN
ASSOCIATE (COMMERCIAL)
Background
Rufus was born and raised in Stellenbosch and matriculated from Paul Roos Gymnasium in 2017. He obtained his BCom Law degree from Stellenbosch University in 2020 and his LLB degree from the same institution in 2022. In 2023, he completed a Master of Laws in Commercial Law at the University of Cape Town, graduating cum laude.
Rufus joined Bisset Boehmke McBlain as a candidate attorney in 2024. After completing his articles at the end of 2025, he was admitted as an attorney and appointed as an Associate in the firm’s Commercial Law Department. He is also an admitted conveyancer.
His practice focuses on corporate and commercial law, including commercial agreements, business structures and commercial transactions. His qualification as a conveyancer complements his commercial practice, particularly in matters where commercial and property law intersect.
Outside the office, Rufus enjoys golf, tennis and touch rugby, as well as hiking and hunting. He also enjoys spending time with family and friends and reading whenever he finds the time.
